If you’ve shopped for floor mats for your 2002-2005 Thunderbird recently, you probably know that mats featuring the Thunderbird ‘wings’ emblem, logo or even the Thunderbird script lettering are no longer available.
What happened? Ford recently ended licensing of the production of floor mats that use the Thunderbird name, logo or emblem for vehicles newer than the 2000 model year. Of course that includes the 2002-2005 Thunderbird ‘Retro.’ And the original OEM Ford floor and trunk mats that featured the Thunderbird logo have been out of production for many years.
Why did Ford do that?
Part of the reason is recent legal action brought against Toyota for crashes, injuries and deaths related to floor mats that become stuck under the accelerator pedal of various Toyota vehicles.
What kind of floor mats for the 2002-2005 Thunderbird are available?
While you can’t buy new floor mats that feature the Thunderbird logo or name, there are still lots of choices.
